First TUBS.space Workshop: mission and aim
Sixty years after the launch of the first satellite Sputnik, space turned into a region with permanent human presence. The growing need to utilize the Earth orbit for human activities resulting in growing space debris causes a sustainability problem. Thus, a modular and resource saving approach to the use of space is mandatory for the future in the view of an increasing number of spacefaring nations and private companies using space.
Spacecraft modular architecture plus additive manufacturing and assembly of components on orbit is a promising approach to sustainability on orbit. It enables new spacecraft classes with minimal structures that do not have to withstand launch stresses any longer and it contributes to new exploration scenarios. This workshop addresses new approaches to manufacturing in space presented by leading experts.
